520 _aThis feature film is based on an actual, historical event. In December 1937, after occupying Nanjing, invading Japanese soldiers sacked the city, killing, burning and plundering. In order to protect the refugees and Chinese soldiers, the monks of Qixia Temple, under Master Jiran, voluntarily created a Buddhist refugee camp and helped more than 24,000 people resettle. Because of this, one of the tommple's monks was brutally killed. However, Master Jiran and other unarmed Chinese monks fearlessly used the Buddhist doctrine of saving all living creatures and demonstrating benevolence to face and defeat the evil around them, thus saving the ancient temple and the lives of many refugees."--Container
