Summary: English Lady Lael Wingate has a young American staying with her at her country home - she has taken in three refugees - two Russian and a German - Hugo Willens. The American's father Hobart Eldredge and his mother and brother arrive. Hobart is trying to raise a youth army to fight with the fascists. He clashes with Hugo. Despite looking a typical Aryan his great grandmother was Jewish. As a result of these clashes Hugo decides to go back to Germany and fight the Nazis
